Yorkshire and Humberside Consortium comprises of four National Probation Service Trusts:
Humberside North Yorkshire South Yorkshire West Yorkshire
The Consortium area is the same as that of important regional structures such as:
· Government offices for Yorkshire and Humberside
· The Regional Assembly for Yorkshire and Humberside
· The Regional Development Agency
The Consortium also has the same boundaries as the four County Police Forces, and the Prison Service. We are committed to developing closer working relationships with these organisations.
The Humberside Probation Trust covers the area around the Humber Estuary, comprising the Local Government areas of Hull City, the East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. The areas include the urban centres of Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe together with sparsely populated rural areas. The area employs about 420 staff.

The North Yorkshire Probation Trust covers the largest geographical area of any of the 42 Probation Services in England and Wales. The main centres of population, in this rural county, are York, Scarborough, Northallerton and Harrogate. The area employs over 200 staff and operates from a number of office bases located throughout the county.

The South Yorkshire Probation Trust covers the four Metropolitan Districts of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. It has around 630 staff, of whom 180 are Probation Officers. It serves a population of 1.3 million. Traditionally an area of heavy industry, it is currently in the process of significant regeneration. Unemployment in the area is falling but remains above the national average.

The West Yorkshire Probation Trust employs around 1000 staff: 100 Managers, 300 Officers, 300 Probation Support Grades and 267 Administration/Clerical Staff. The service covers the five Metropolitan Districts of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield and has a population of just over 2 million (1991 census). About 8% of the population is of Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background.
